Our Speaker for the January meeting will be Kendall Chiles. Kendall will be presenting the topic of Natural Lighting. The types of light, direction of light, changing light conditions, time of day, geographic location, and weather conditions will all discussed. As usual this will all be illustrated with many example photographs. In the words of George Eastman, founder of Eastman Kodak, "Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography.”
Kendall is a freelance nature and travel photographer with over 40 years of photographyexperience. Starting out as a yearbook photographer in high school, his interest in photographygrew into a hobby and passion to photograph the beauty of creation and America. It is thispassion that continues to motivate him and his photography. Over the years his hobby developedinto a business that also includes commercial photography. His stock nature and travelphotographs have appeared in numerous magazines, books, and brochures.Kendall is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, and is also an instructor for the University ofTennessee Professional & Personal Development and the Smoky Mountain Field School. He hasalso been an instructor and workshop leader for American Park Network/Canon USA, EarthSongPhotography, Gander Mountain, Grandfather Mountain, Kentucky State Parks, National Parks ofLake Superior Fund, Natural Impressions Photography, Tennessee Outdoor Writers Associationand Volunteer State Community College. Since 1992 he has been a presenter and workshopleader at the annual Pigeon Forge Wilderness Wildlife Week. He served 14 years as president ofthe Knoxville-based Southern Appalachian Nature Photographers, of which he is a chartermember and has previously served on their Board of Directors.His publication credits include Amphoto Books, Birds & Blooms, Birds & Blooms EXTRA, BlueRidge Country, Book Production Resources, Country, Country DISCOVERIES, Country EXTRA,Farm & Ranch Living, Great Smoky Mountains Association, Guns & Gear, In the Wind, KnoxvilleNews Sentinel, Leisure Publishing, Monroe Life, Pigeon Forge Department of Tourism, RoughingIt Smoothly, Smoky Mountain Visitors Bureau, Tennessee Conservationist, Towery Publications,and University of Tennessee’s Smoky Mountain Field School.
